I frequently encounter people who seem to take me as the perfect audience for stories of their trip to New York fifteen years ago, diatribes against vegetarian food, or tales of childhood trauma. Sometimes, my housemates have guests over who do this while I am clearly trying to cook, eat, or make my way past them to get to my room. Sometimes, it is a random person in a coffee shop.
How do I make it stop?

I have never heard this expression “Once upon a time” except fairy tales. Is it strange if I use it in everyday conversation ? When it is used, how old do you think the story is I am talking about ?

Again, he was dying and this little fairy or angel or something (definitely female, as she was naked, but covered with a soft down); she had wings, etc. Anyway, she was there to help him remember. I cannot remember whether he had some sort of choice in the way he died; ie whether he could go fast or could linger (no pain), but he would remember his entire life, working backwards. It was a totally cool story; I think I read it in the early 80s or late 70s. Does ANYONE recognize this story? For sure, sci fi/fantasy; possibly by a famous writer such as Asimov (but NOT him). Thanks. And by the way…any story like this, tell me; I’m always looking for a great book/author!!

All I remember was it came from a huge book of fairy tales, and I lost it a while ago. It had something to do with a man who went underground, and there was a 3 headed dog. There was a choice between gold, silver and bronze, and each did something. Thats all I know, and it is not Harry Potter! If anyone vaguely recognizes this story, anything would be helpful because I would like to read it again. Hopefully I got the details right and didnt confuse two stories. Thanks so much!!
